Pride at GW Medicine
Pride Month (June 1 to June 30) is celebrated each year to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. Pride Month spotlights LGBTQIA+ voices and celebrates LGBTQIA+ culture, achievements and activism through a series of organized activities, including film festivals, art exhibits, marches, concerts and other programs throughout the month. Through these efforts, the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies aim to spotlight LGBTQIA+ voices and increase awareness.
To commemorate Pride Month this year the GW MFA DEI Council organized a Pride Awareness Mixer that included introductions and networking, a panel by GW Sexual Health and Gender Affirmation (SAGA), a Q&A Session, and discussion of upcoming initiatives.
In addition, members of the GW community celebrated Pride month at the Capital Pride Festival and our Operational Medicine team provided medical aid for festival goers.
Prayer Rooms
The GW MFA DEI Council launched prayer rooms throughout the MFA that are available during working hours to all who are employed by MFA and GW. Each of the rooms is designated for prayer and is available on a first come, first served basis.
The prayer rooms are located at:
3811 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA, 3rd floor, Room 316 |
2150 Pennsylvania Ave., NW - 6th Floor, Room 6-405 |
2300 M Street NW - 3rd floor, Room 326 A |
The Journey to Inclusion
To support the inclusion and belonging of all individuals at the GW MFA, we recognize the importance of the use of desired pronouns at work as a form of respect and courtesy. Many individuals prefer to use pronouns other than he/him/his or she/her/hers, but instead, they/them/theirs.
Pronouns are unique to each individual and an individual may change the pronouns they use at any time.
Tips to Support Inclusion:
- Add your own pronouns to your e-mail signature.
- Introduce yourself using your pronouns: “Hi, I’m Jean. I go by them/they/theirs pronouns.”
It is the expectation that all MFA team members are respectful and courteous to one another, and to our patients.
